چکیده
Different corrosion mitigation strategies (e.g. inhibitors, coatings) are employed in the construction industry to mitigate chloride-induced bridge decks and reinforced concrete pavements. While epoxy coatings effective mitigating rebar corrosion, their local damage during transportation may lead aggressive pitting corrosion. Besides, cannot be repaired in-situ due toxic nature requirement for special equipment. In this study, a new soy-based coating material is investigated which can applied protecting from repairing damaged coated rebars. Soy-based synthesized using denatured soy protein isolate (SPI) (5–15% wt. deionized water) corn-derived sorbitol plasticizer (10–30% of SPI). The physical chemical characteristics protection performance evaluated cement mortar embedded SPI results obtained FTIR, viscosity, abrasion tests demonstrated that have an adequate resistance include necessary functional groups usage as material. potentiodynamic polarization showed significantly reduce current density (up 96% when compared bare rebar) simulated pore solution contained 3.5% sodium chloride. long-term data rapid macrocell protein-coated rebars incur lower rates exhibited stable potential specimens. Overall, formulation with 15% 30% highest resistance. proposed materials used repairs chloride environments standalone moderately corrosive environments.
